Lieutenant Julie K. Wiseman was born and raised in Jackson, TN. She was a member of South Side High School’s Navy JROTC Program. In 2004 she enlisted in the Navy and was sent to Airman Apprenticeship Training at Naval Air Technical Training Center in Pensacola, FL. In December 2004 she reported to USS Enterprise (CVN 65), based out of Norfolk, Virginia, where she served in V-3 Division and was responsible for the movement of aircraft in the hanger bays. In 2006 they deployed in support of operations in the 5th, 6th, and 7th Fleet areas of responsibility and were instrumental in the war on terrorism supporting Operation Iraqi and Enduring Freedom. Port calls included: Split, Croatia; Souda Bay, Greece; Pusan, South Korea; Hong Kong; Singapore; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Jedel Ali, United Arab Emirates and Lisbon, Portgual. While on deployment she earned her Enlisted Aviation and Surface Warfare Specialist qualifications and became a Shellback. On her second deployment in 2007 the Enterprise deployed through the Mediterranean to the Arabian Gulf. Ports included Cannes, France and Dubai. In 2010 LT Wiseman, then Aviation Boatswain’s Mate Second Class transferred to shore duty at Naval Air Station (NAS) Whiting Field located in Milton, Florida. While at NAS Whiting Field she was an Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting Crash Crew Chief, earned the rank of First Class Petty Officer, and was selected for the Seaman-To Admiral 21 (STA-21) program. In 2013, she reported to NROTC Iowa State University (ISU) in Ames, Iowa. She graduated from ISU with a Bachelor of Liberal Studies and minor in Military Studies and commissioned as a Naval Officer in 2015. In 2016, Lieutenant Wiseman reported to USS John P. Murtha (LPD 26), based out of San Diego, California. She served as the Second Division Officer in Deck Department and during the Murtha’s “Commissioning Sail Around” visited ports in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba; Montego Bay, Jamaica; Bridgetown, Barbados; Mayport, FL; Norfolk, VA; Newport, RI; Philadelphia, PA; and Balboa, Panama after their Panama Canal transit. While onboard, she earned her Surface Warfare Officer pin and Engineering Officer of the Watch qualification. She participated in NASA’s Underway Recovery Test Orion Mission, RIMPAC 2018, and a 5th and 7th Fleet deployment with ports including Pearl Harbor, Hawaii; Visakhapatnam, India; Doha, Qatar; Jeddah, Saudi Arabia; Subic Bay, Philippines and Guam. It was on this deployment when she completed sailing completely around the globe. In November of 2019, Lieutenant Wiseman reported back to NROTC Iowa State University and is now serving as the unit’s Surface Warfare Officer and class advisor of freshman and sophomore Navy option midshipmen. Lieutenant Wiseman’s personal awards include: Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, three Navy Achievement Medals, three Good Conduct Medals, and the Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal.
