Commander Jeremy Gross, a native of Philipsburg, Montana, graduated from Montana State University in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Geography. After graduating, he joined the Navy and earned his Wings as a Naval Flight Officer in the summer of 2001. He then reported to his first squadron, VQ-2 in Rota, Spain, where he served as a Mission Commander onboard the EP-3E, deploying to South America, the Mediterranean, and the Middle East. Upon completion of his first sea tour, CDR Gross remained overseas in Sigonella, Sicily, as the Future Plans Officer for Commander’s Task Force 67 in which he planned numerous multi-national exercises and engagements throughout Europe and Africa. Next, CDR Gross reported to USS JOHN C. STENNIS (CVN-74) as a Shooter and Division Officer for over 130 Sailors, successfully completing a six-month Western Pacific deployment. Upon selection as Aviation Department Head in 2009, CDR Gross reported to the Old Buzzards of VPU-1 in NAS Jacksonville, FL. CDR Gross served as the Squadron Maintenance Officer and Detachment Officer in Charge in Afghanistan and the Horn of Africa, as well as the acting Executive Officer for the Old Buzzards when the Squadron was decommissioned. Next, he achieved fluency in Spanish while attending the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, CA, and returned to Spain as a Naval Science professor to teach at the Spanish Naval Academy. Upon completion of his tour in Spain, he joined USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT during an eight-and-a-half month around-the-world deployment as the Aviation Safety Officer. CDR Gross joined Iowa State NROTC as the Executive Officer in the fall of 2017.
CDR Gross’ personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, two Air Medals, four Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, two Navy Achievement Medals, and various other campaign and service medals. Additionally, he holds a MBA from the University of Maryland University College and is a Joint Professional Military Education Phase One graduate. CDR Gross is married to the former Lucilene Alves of Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. They have one son, Tyler Alexander.
