
Marine Officer
- During the summer of their junior year, Marine Corps Option NROTC students attend the challenging Officer Candidates School (OCS) where they are trained, screened, and evaluated to determine if they are capable of earning the title Officer of Marines.
- Upon commissioning, all new Second Lieutenants report to The Basic School (TBS), located in Quantico, VA, where they are taught the basics of infantry combat and the meaning of the phrase, "Every Marine a Rifleman."
- While at The Basic School, officers compete for Military Occupational Specialties (MOS) such as Infantry, Artillery, Tanks, Aviation, Logistics, Communications, Supply, Judge Advocate General (JAG), among others.
- Upon graduation from The Basic School, new 2nd Lieutenants report to their follow-on MOS schools and then for assignment to the Fleet Marine Force (FMF).
- Marines serve in a variety of sea and shore duties, with bases in San Diego, CA; Yuma, AZ; Quantico, VA; Jacksonville, NC; Beaufort, SC; Honolulu, HI; and Okinawa, Japan.
