Commander David Asjes, USN

Executive Officer

Commander David Asjes is originally from Kansas City, MO. He graduated from the US Naval Academy with a BS in Systems Engineering and was commissioned an Ensign in the United States Navy in 1985. After flight training in Pensacola, FL, he was winged as a Naval Flight Officer in 1987 and assigned as a Radar Intercept Officer.

Following initial training in the F-14A Tomcat with the "Grim Reapers" of VF-101, Commander Asjes was assigned to the "Red Rippers" of Fighter Squadron 11 (1988-1990), in which he deployed twice with Carrier Air Wing SIX onboard USS Forrestal (CV-59). He served his department head tour with the "Black Aces" of Fighter Squadron 41 (1996-1997), in which he deployed with Carrier Air Wing EIGHT onboard USS Kennedy (CV-67).

On his shore tours, Commander Asjes has flown operational test in the F-14 and F-18 with the "Evaluators" of Test and Evaluation Squadron 4 at NAS Point Mugu, CA (1991), and developmental test in those aircraft with the Naval Strike Aircraft Test Squadron at NAS Patuxent River, MD (1994-1995). He has also served as a NATO joint operational planning officer stationed at Joint Headquarters North in Stavanger, Norway (1999-2001). Most recently, Commander Asjes was the Operations Officer at the Naval Strike and Air Warfare Center in NAS Fallon, NV (2001-2005). He reported as Executive Officer of the Naval ROTC unit at Iowa State University in April, 2005. He has flown over 2,500 hours in numerous military aircraft and amassed over 450 carrier arrested landings.

Commander Asjes has earned an MS in Aeronautical Engineering (Avionics) from the Naval Postgraduate School, an MA in National Security from the Naval War College, and has graduated from the US Naval Test Pilot School. His personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal and the Joint Service Commendation Medal.
